I'm honestly going nta here. he's allowed to have a close friend at work. "work wife" is just a cute nickname. I agree that discussing the guest list in general is maybe a conversation they should have had together, but that isn't just on him; both of them had a responsibility to initiate a conversation about this. I would say it's not unreasonable for her to be surprised that the work wife is there, but I don't think it's inappropriate, nor do I think it's above much more of that a quick apology and acknowledgment that the guest list conversation was something that should have happened.
