I work in oakland its not worth hiring more of em they dont care and never respond to calls or pick up thier calls either and dont do a damn thing to stop crime even the sheriffs dept dosnt do anything

They don't need more officers, they just need a better prosecutor. Cops are playing, catch and release the same people over and over again. Criminals and cops and know each other by their first names.

No one wants to work at OPD. Quality of life and job security sucks at OPD. The civilian police commission hate the police and fire police chiefs as well as numerous officers all the time. Then they end up getting their jobs back cause commission doesn’t know anything about laws or use of force and a judge determines it to be a wrongful termination wasting city money. Then when they come back they leave OPD to other agencies cause they don’t wanna go through that again. Not to mention how anti police the city council was. Nikka Bas and FIfe are super anti cop.

WE DON'T NEED TO HIRE OUTSIDE CONSULTANT TO TELL US WHAT IS OBVIOUSLY CLEAR Besides...these numbers are not giving an adequate picture of how many active officers are truly on the ground available to do the work that's needed. Officers that are INACTIVE are being counted in this number also there are a number of officers that are retiring or rotating out - What is the realistic number??? it's right under 500 officers! of that, at any given time they say there are 35 officers out patrolling throughout Oakland and sometimes it's even less than that - that is why OPD is always guilty of having so much overtime $$$ - OPD overworks the smaller number of ACTIVE officers to try to give adequate coverage - which we know is not enough based on the crime wave that's out of control!
