Wrong. We went above and beyond, asked for the raise and got told “it’s not in the budget” so we stopped

IDK man it's not just the money/companies because I work a job with no barrier to entry, straight out of high school you can make 60k consistently and they still slack and have pretty poor work ethic despite the workload not being very much. So I'm sure it's partly due to how the economy works but it's also a work ethic problem from my experience

To be clear, working hard also doesn’t get you that promotion or raise anymore. You’ll be met with “You’ve only been here a year”, “Bonuses are 50% less because of company performance”, or my favorite, “Here’s a gift card for your hard work”.

My grandpa the other day said kids your age just go from job to jobs where I worked my entire career at one place. I told him I am lucky if I get a 30 cent raise a year. We move jobs in order to make enough to just make it by. He was stunned

Imagine doing above and beyond working hours you dont clock. Staying till the jobs done not when the days shift is done and when your confident your doing more then anyone else and you go ask for a raise and they fire you because they dont like that energy/dont want everyone asking for a raise. How many jobs did it take for each of us to work till we found out doing more doesnt pay off

Both my mom and my dad dedicated multiple decades to their respective jobs. Dad got fired in a merger, and mom got fired because a new security guy decided taking a bite of a scrap of dough meant for the trash is TREASONOUS behavior. If a job wants my trust and respect, it needs to earn it.

I was due for a $1 raise when I worked in clinic as a Patient Care Tech. I wasn’t getting it, yet was expected to know how to do almost everyone else’s job in the office. So I found a job elsewhere that paid more. The week before I left, all of my coworkers got a raise 🙂

I was told by my boss that raises aren’t really in the budget but then she went on vacation to Hawaii for a week and then said she’s considering sending some of us employees there for a “work experience”. Mf IM POOR i make $16 an hour I don’t want to go on vacation I want to live without fear of losing everything

This is literally just not true. I excelled beyond every person on my team, the company have to give me 5s (top score) on my review dispite having a “there’s always room for improvement, no such thing as a 5” mentality. And I got a $0.25/hr raise. Now that department doesn’t exist because anyone who was decent at their job left because we wernt valued despite being told how valuable we were. Companies do not care about staff anymore. So why would we?

Every single job ive ever had that I asked "Look at all this extra work ive done, I would like a raise" the boss has told me "It doesnt really work like that around here" Your only reward for doing a lot of work, is more work. Thats it.

Ive done my job, half the work of a peer, and stepped up when leadership isn’t here. I still got the same flat raise, my review said I just met the minimum, and I don’t even get interviews for promotions.

What he’s missing is we watched the generation between him and ours work hard and then when the time came they didn’t get the raise or promotion.

I was asked to step up to a leadership position while my manager left for maternity leave. I accepted in hopes of a bonus or raise. I was laid off 2 weeks before she got back.

My company tells us, “Going above and beyond is the standard we expect which is why, even though you did all of this extra work, we’re marking your performance as ‘meets expectations’!”

A huge part of the problem that you miss, is that employers don't value their employees like they used too

This is definitely not true. Both methods don’t yield raises. Company’s have shifted their budgets from internal raises to competitive offers for new employees.

I jumped my most recent job where they said no raises “not in the budget” but then need to hire 10ppl immediately bc we were short staffed with 50 projects coming up but those salaries were also lowballs for the market. I left for a 25% pay increase and a new experience.

Worked at the same company for almost 10yrs and after inflation I effectively had earned a 2% raise.. Arbitrarily KPI bonuses with a value fully dependent on the whim of the ceo had budgeted. Performance had zero impact on your bonus.. left and got 20% more somewhere else.

Also, nobody is getting rewarded for working harder anymore. An explanation to go above and beyond for an employer that pays as little as possible is garbage but standard now
