when I was a server if your kid was causing chaos we gave one warning, after that we would cancel your order and tell you to leave if your kid/s didn't behave. it's a restaurant, not a jungle gym.

I worked in a pharmacy, some kid started throwing all the hand creams on the floor, I picked the creams up and sternly told her "No. stop." the mother saw me and said "No young man, you don't get to educate my child" and then looked at the kid and told her "No. stop."

I got fired from a job because I told a kid he had to wait in line for a slide and his mom went off on me. I told her that she needed to relearn how to parent so others wouldn’t have to do it for her. No regrets.

I've been a babysitter, nanny and auntie and godmom for a long time. I've been told I'm too strict because I have boundaries and don't let kids walk all over me or get away with shit. I've also been told I spoil kids too much with outings and little gifts. Personally I don't think taking kids to free/low cost outings if spoiling them. I've set expectations on behavior. If they can't meet them we won't go. If you can't behave and respect boundaries and rules I'm going to tell you no. I have had to leave outings early with kids because they could not follow the rules. The kids get over it. The parents are usually the ones that are up in arms about it. I love to spoil kiddos. But I won't spoil a kid who can't respect the rules I have. My rules are for safety, and to teach kids how to act appropriately for their age.
