@wired: Everyone knows what it’s like to lose cell service. A burgeoning open source project called Meshtastic is filling the gap for when you’re in the middle of nowhere—or when disaster strikes.

you guys dont get it, this is open source and decentralized, NOBODY will see your message but you and the recupient, not even the government. and its not a honeypot, everyone and anyone can see the source code, also you build the device yourself with parts you source, meshtastic is awesome

"You don't need to rely on cell tower coverage" Cool, where can you use it? In cities or other places where alot of people live. Ah so places that already have good coverage

I mountain bike in the LA mountains. I often have no cell service and worry what would happen if I went down and didn’t have service. I’ll have to get into this

How secure is it. What prevents a man in the middle? If everyone can see the code what prevents exploits? If I know your hashing algorithm and salt process what stops me from performing a simple dictionary attack on the hashed data that’s being sent? Is the key stored in the information that is sent? Is it a two part key?

So a pager that depends on it being very popular outside of ALL of the other networks that have to be out to want to use it.
