Literally the mentality of it was very different from now, while amazing and awesome games still come out, there's defintely more corporate influence in them and a lot of worlds while big, feel less alive.

the fog that is such an iconic part of silent hill games only existed because of the graphical limitations of the ps1. silent hill 1 only had the fog to serve as a sort of loading screen, and it worked so well with the atmosphere it was put in silent hill 2, which is the most iconic part of the entire game.
