As a US history teacher, my experience is the kids see it all as a story or even fiction. And when history starts repeating and I ask them to compare, their brains hurt because, “it’s different, this was a a long time ago and now we’re talking about real life.” Instead of put yourself in their shoes approach, I’ve started saying, “bring this event or person to today, what does that look like in your life.” It helps a little 🤷🏼♂️
