NW Arctic Alaskan here. When I was about 6 my family adopted an orphaned wolf pup. She was the best pet - so protective and happy & gentle while still having a lot of "pack" instincts - like she just had excellent instincts about who wasn't going to harm us and who might harm us. When she sensed a visitor was unwelcome, she would bare her teeth & give an unmistakable warning to go away. But when she sensed someone was welcome, she would gently but very firmly bite their wrist & guide them to the front door. Anyway... all of this to say this howling is the song of my childhood. She would howl like this quite a bit, as if calling out to her distant relatives in the wild 🩶
