I once saw a 7ish year old with a bifocal. I’m an OA for an optometric G specialist- all we see is geriatric patients so I was super confused?? Pls don’t blame me 😂

It’s completely normal for a doc to prescribe a rx like that, as the add power helps with eyes that pull to the side/up/down. I have seen doctors prescribe it with a straight top bisecting the pupil to counter the pull. It actually helps alot for young kids.

That is so weird! They used to manage myopia with add powers to try and stop it from progressing. It wasn’t effective so new techniques have been developed, but I didn’t realize this was still being done so recently

progressives could also be prescribed after a pediatric cataract surgery to compensate for the accommodation.

It would perfectly normal. With progressive you can see close up with a lower prescription, so rest your eyes a lot and prevent major increases. If I had worn them as a teen, I would not probably be -18 now.
