This happened to me once but with a whole entire house that was actually for sale. It all seemed so for sure. Walked thru it, signed legit looking paperwork, paid a deposit & was immediately ghosted. Lost $1k and still had to find a house to rent lol people suck

Happened to me too! I reported it to the agency it was so bizarre the scammer was able to hack the door code and let people in. When they sent me application it was through google survey so I knew it was scam but so scary for people that may not realize it.

13 years ago my friends rented a flat in Barcelona and I stayed with them as I was passing through Spain. I woke up to a woman screaming at me saying she was going to call the police. Someone who had access to the house “rented” it to them- but it wasnt really a house for rent. The owner found out and came back. I happened to be there that night 😬

It’s actually sad and pathetic because so many are looking for livable places and to take advantage is disgusting. They say we have a housing crisis but after the deaths in Covid we actually have a lot of spaces available out there.

I remember one time this “realtor” was offering $100 showings but if you didn’t like the unit you can immediately ask for your refund or the homeowner would always magically be in the army and you can only tour once you sign the lease (to a place you’ve never seen that is most likely already occupied 🤣) ….yea ok

This happened to me and my mom! We got a new property manager, and they put a door code lock with the keys to our apartment on our door, and had people come “view” our apartment, *without* telling us. We only found out about it cause they walked in when we were eating breakfast.

my parents own rentals & people have been just showing up & walking into the current house that’s for rent bc scammers have been posting it😭 i feel like most the time if you aren’t MEETING with the owners or property managers then you’re probably being scammed🥲

Once someone rented a granny unit to me and turned out they didn’t own the property. The actual owner tried to lock me out because I wouldn’t pay him rent I hadn’t signed the lease with him!? It was crazy. Had to speak to an attorney and it ended up working out. The person I rented from was claiming they bought the property at an auction but turns out they didn’t actually own it. 😬
