Part of me feels like it is intentional or they realized you can do it and thought “huh, that’s neat, let’s keep it”. They have specific options for camera controls so they clearly expect you to use it, plus the road and world being so open, there may be players next to you pretty often and if you wanna stop them from getting ahead and hitting you with a trailed item, you can try and snipe them. If it wasn’t intentionally made for that, it def was noticed in testing and they fully just kept it in for fun.

like how would that be unintentional? They need to program the initial velocity and they chose camera's direction not the kart's.

That’s 100% on purpose. Default direction being tied to the camera direction would make no sense to code that way unless they were specifically trying to achieve this. Otherwise it would just default to the karts rotation since it’s already parented to that object anyway
