I've lost multiple friends to this. One thing I noticed. They made a lot of jokes. In hindsight when they stopped was when I should've investigated more. Among many other things I missed at the time.

OR nurse here. This brought back one of my favorite patients. He was a survivor of a firearm attempt, getting reconstructive work done a regular basis. He’d always come back with updates about doing his favorite things again, reconnecting with his children, and being grateful he survived. Men’s mental health is so important! Accepting help shows your strength, not weakness! ❤️

My dad had unsecured firearms around the house and I think people miss the fact that you not only have worry about yourself, but other family members too. Everyone in my immediate family has dealt with SI, and that is a massive burden to take when there’s loaded firearms around the house.

I had a patient once who survived a firearm attempt. the gun had kicked forward and blown most of his face off, he was blind, trached, and had to undergo many many surgeries. so sad 💔

In Canada, firearms law requires unloaded firearms to be placed in a locked cabinet with ammunition in another safe.
