You're such an icon to me tbh your response was perfect and a lot of people absolutely do not know how to handle that level of bluntness and honesty and they WILL villainize you for it. Remember, people get upset when the situation no longer benefits them and boundaries are there to protect you. People who do not respect boundaries are the people who need to be stood up to the most.

I don’t think you did anything wrong. It is weird because we live in a society that expects us to not put our health first and when we do people have trouble understanding and sometimes think it’s selfish. Like you said with the context you had at the time you sent that paragraph and it was appropriate considering the way they reached out to you basically spamming you. Obviously it’s it a difficult situation would it have been better if you reached out earlier obviously yes but like you said in a comment to someone else you were still trying to sleep so you could maybe make it. These things happen and I get it honestly if I was in your situation I think the same way and would feel weird about it. Things don’t always work out and it’s difficult on both ends but it was inappropriate for them to beg you to watch their kids when you had just set a boundary and the fact they aren’t paying you correctly just adds too it.

I mean it is a little irresponsible to cancel it that late, From the family perspective, you wake up at 7am to this text and need to rearrange your whole day somehow make it work. But stuff happens, everyone is human. I think ideally you text them earlier (you knew you’ were stressed, just couldn’t make up your mind to cancel). I think now you reach out apologise again and ask about future? Also sending them a paragraph is a lot crazy 😭
