As an Autism mama as well, putting my son in the school district has been the best decision! It took exactly 1.5 years but he speaks full sentences, & has graduated out of all specials. It’s so scary but so worth it!

I love you Ariel ❤️🫶 my daughter is 5. She also has autism , sadly I didn’t get Ana therapy as an option since she’s been on the waiting list since she was 3 years old. But I put her in school and she’s been with her teacher since she was 3 up until now. She has one more year with her teacher before she turns 7, but it was the best decision I made. I was so paranoid. As I don’t trust anyone with my baby, but her teachers made me feel so comfortable I was able to meet and talk to them before. She now talks way more, does things more independently and she still has OT & Speech therapy outside and inside of school and all of that has been helping! It’s definitely up to u mama. ❤️🙏🏽 I know you’ll make the right call for your baby as well !

My baby is 2 and non verbal and this is my fear to leave him alone where he can’t verbally communicate. 😭 how do you get past the fear?

Put him in the IDEA school district, I work with the RISE unit and it’s awesome for their academic growth and social development.

I thought this might help ease you a bit, the last year I’ve worked as a special needs aid and we have many nonverbal children who has seen so much success in the public school and have thrived and the children receive so much love and support not only from us teachers but their peers as well.

My daughter is nonverbal and I had the hardest time sending her to school! (Head start for autistic children) but she ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!!!! It was harder on me sending her than it was on her. I’m sure he’ll be in a smaller class which makes things a lot easier 💙

My nephew was nonverbal and went straight to public school and now he’s a little verbal but doing good! I also work with some autistic kids and the first few weeks are rough but then learn to love it 🥺

I was a paraprofessional at an elementary school for 5 years and I always had a soft spot for my non verbal babies 🥰 I loved helping them communicate in their own ways

As an autism mom, my son was put into Pre-K at a public school as a nonverbal child. He LOVES school/his teachers/and his classmates. His speech has gotten a bit better, but seeing him thrive in school and willing to go makes me feel like I’ve done the right thing. It all depends on the setting and how welcoming those are around him.

I had the same thoughts with my daughter. I wasn’t ready but she was! Fast forward — she graduating ABA therapy, starting speech + OT. I did put her in public school but I have an advocate to help
