With that being said, a lot of you DIY ppl & newer nail techs need to TOUCH GRASS! If you had gotten licensed prior to COVID, then you would know that in nail school it gets HAMMERED into you that you’re not a good nail tech unless you use professional brands and are only loyal to 1 or 2 brands. Were taught that doing this makes you stand out as a REGULAR NAIL TECH! A lot of nail artists like me and DIY-ers are not looking for basic, solid color nails. OPI doing this affects nail techs who do not specialize heavy in art. In the real world, most clients don’t want nail art, glitter, chrome, NOTHING! When you work in a salon unless you’ve already established yourself as nail tech that specializes in extensions and nail art, most of your clients will only want gel manicures. Gel manicures are the “bread and butter” of a nail salon. Those services are faster and less involved, so they can work on more people and make more money. Nothing wrong with that, not everyone has the dexterity, patience, or time to do their own nails. Do I think OPI doing this will ruin everything for these types of nail techs? No! You don’t have to let it, but I do understand the frustration with OPI as a PROFESSIONAL nail brand. YES! I’m aware that they have sold to the public since the 80’s, however that was regular nail lacquer that dries by air. GEL POLISH HAS A COMPLETELY DIFFEERENT CHEMICAL MAKEUP! Gel polish is more DANGEROUS than traditional air dry polish, that is why it was ORIGINALLY intended for PROFESSIONAL USE ONLY! YES! It is also true that other non professional brands have given the public access to gel polish for years now, however it doesn’t mean that they should have. It wouldn’t be so bad if these businesses actually educated the average consumer on how to safely use gel products, but even a lot of nail brands demonstrate improper use of their own products just to make sales! Was all of this deserving of a “crash out”, no. What all of this has exposed is how ugly a lot of you feel towards nail techs who are just trying to make a living. When you complain about having to pay more than $25 for your nails, just know that nail techs don’t get hourly pay it’s usually commission (50% starting). You’re mad that nail techs don’t want to accept being paid DUST in an economy that’s constantly inflating. That’s a disgusting perspective to take. I’m not saying it’s okay to be overcharged, especially if the work doesn’t match the price or you were misled to think it would be a different price. I too have been mistreated as a nail salon client, that’s why I started doing my own nails in MIDDLE school in the mid 2000s when independent nail techs and nail art were not so common as they are today. I KNOW how it feels to be the consumer, and the service provider, and nail techs do not get paid ENOUGH for the amount of BS they have to out up with from some customers and salon owners if they’re not an independent nail tech. #opi #opigelcolor #nailtech #licensednailtech #nailartist
