@el2raw: Been trying to process my thoughts and emotions over this past weekend. I know we have all been processing these events in our own ways and that’s ok. What’s not ok though is to act like these events do not affect us individually or even all of us as an entire community. Especially here in Los Angeles where immigrants are the heartbeat of the city. It’s hurt to have to watch families being torn apart ,our people being treated like animals, and hearing daughters/sons weeping in these videos. No matter where you stand on this issue idc, I’m here to say that this shit is not ok. I grew up with many of my friends and neighbors being undocumented. Life was already hard as it was for them, but not to add this level of terror on an already difficult situation to navigate is just inhumane. What’s given me hope through these difficult times though, is seeing the way our community is standing up to these injustices. The way our people are standing up for those who cannot stand up for themselves. I feel reassured in my anger and pain towards this ongoing situation. We cannot allow the narrative to be flipped on us and paint us as the aggressors. Nobody deserves to be treated like this or ripped apart from their families. At all. It’s simple human rights. I pray that we can all remain safe and vigilant through these tough times. That together we can support those in our communities in need in any way possible. And to simply continue using our voices for those who cannot. To make it clear: We don’t want ICE or any of these other so called “law enforcement” agencies targeting or terrorizing our people and neighborhoods. Ya’ll are not welcome. With love, stay safe and check on your loved ones. Together we can make it through. P.S: This was my very first photoshoot with @BROWN N PROUD . A brand that I stand with 100% on the way they represent and uplift our culture and community. All my best work has been with B&P simply because our vision and values align 🙏🏽
