@sunxueling: << Celebrating 60 years of Singapore-Canada bilateral relations >> Happy to unveil the Thunderbird Totem Pole at Gardens by the Bay, the first-ever Canadian First Nations totem pole in Singapore, gifted by Canada in Singapore. Was at Cloud Forest this morning together with High Commissioner for Canada in Singapore, His Excellency Jean-Domique Ieraci for this occasion, where I also met Calvin and Marie Hunt, the carvers of the Totem Pole. We also enjoyed choir performances by students from Canadian International School. Totem Poles are monumental works of art and a central part of Kwakwaka’wakw culture - First Nations people from British Columbia, who view all elements of nature – plants, animals and landforms – as interconnected. The Thunderbird Totem Pole is a meaningful addition to the Gardens. It reflects this connection and bridging the cultural wisdom of the Kwakwaka’wakw with the ecological narratives of Cloud Forest. Do look out for it the next time you visit!
