@styleitprettyhome: This is the story of the guest room formerly known as the Blue Room. And let me start by saying—it wasn’t that the dark blue wasn’t beautiful. It was! Just… not me. Looking back, I did this room right after my husband’s office, and I think his love of all things moody, royal, and dark-academia might’ve rubbed off a little too much. Still stunning, but it never quite fit with the rest of the house or its vibe. The makeover journey began shortly after we moved in. I added a tall chair rail to break up the boxy feel, then refinished the floors. And then… came the paint. Blue is hard. Honestly one of the trickiest colors I’ve worked with. I’ve found that I only really like blue in west or southwest-facing rooms. In this east-facing room, it just felt gloomy—melancholy, even. Boothbay Gray was my first pick… and yeah, it just didn’t hit right. Gorgeous elsewhere, maybe, but not here. After a year of tweaking the decor, trying to cozy it up and tone down the formality, I finally realized the real issue: the color. So I took it back to basics—warm white walls. I know white can feel a little boring, but in here, it’s the perfect balance to the cool-toned natural light. Then I brought in beadboard (a nod to the home’s original materials), and that changed everything. It instantly made the room feel less stiff and more laid-back… but still a little fancy.
