So someone on minimum wage is paying the heating of someone who is getting 30-35k. Sounds real fair that

“We have an aging society” “our birth rate is falling”.. but yet all we do is pander to pensioners who on avg had the best economic times in recent history. Give something back to young people

The social contract is broken because we have people living older, for longer, often in ill health. Hoarding wealth and assets but we still have a triple lock pension. Younger generations working for wages that have stagnated, high interest rates, cant afford to buy assets, no hand outs. Crazy.

As a young working person it’s clear Labour doesn’t care about me. Pensioners get anything they cry for while we are ignored

I'm sorry, but there are young working people who earn way less than this, who struggle with rent & mortgage & food as well as heating their homes and raising their children... but the solution is to give pensioners, many of whom don't have children living with them, own their own homes and have generally lower outgoings, free handouts to help them heat their homes and leave the working people earning less than them to fund it via taxation! I'm sorry, but this is the most backwards policy! she was right to scrap it and leave it alone!

35k for a pensioner means they are rich and don't need the additional money

A lot of pensioners were born at the right time, houses were affordable , jobs were plenty, food was affordable , none of that is the pensioners fault and everything that has increased price wise has affected pensioners as well except for wealthy pensioners ,so don't tar us all with same brush

Junior doctors start on 36k. So are we ready to admit that’s a low income now?

speaking as a 72 year old male I find it ridiculous that a couple with an annual income of £35000 each will get the £200 each !!! Crazy.

PLS,PLS don't let them turn you against pensioners. they saved 4-5 hundred million last year stopping the allowance. while spending 15 billion on hotels free medical, mobile phones etc. this country is in a mess, they are deflecting

no it shows the power of social media and the fact that if they didn't reverse their decision they would be toast at the next general election 💯

I'm glad some pensioners are getting the WFA back, but what about those who are due to have their PIP removed? With all the spending they're predicting, the £5.9bn saving looks petty.

So earning less than £35k means you’re poor and need benefits now in the UK???

£35k should be the household income, not the personal income.

They’ve only reversed it due to the insane media pressure, so don’t complain about it being a u-turn now. (not directed at the News Agents but wider media)

Must have been good to have lived in a period of low house costs, lower energy prices, being able to save get healthy pension that’s more than some people earn now with all the big bills paid off and still get a government freebie as well. Instead of high house prices low wages, big bills, unable to save for future and you’ll be lucky if you get a pension and be able to retire. Good times
