Here I will help so you don’t have to wait for a story time. It’s not the shell that’s poisonous. It’s the creature inside it. It’s a Cone Snail and it harpoons venom inside you that cause paralysis and other horrible things.

I learned that if it doesn't blend in with its surroundings (brightly colored, weird patterns) it's probably dangerous so you shouldn't touch it

In the late 1700s, some surgeons experimented with cone snail venom as a natural anesthetic during delicate procedures. Though highly toxic, tiny doses were believed to temporarily numb nerves making it one of the earliest attempts at pain control before modern anesthesia. I made that up. Yeah, don’t touch ‘em.

Lived in Micronesia growing up - cone shells and stonefish were safety 101 for all of us. I literally just scrolled into this video and immediately panicked for you 😭

As an Australian it has been drilled into me: DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING. Keep your hands and feet to yourself at all times!! ESPECIALLY in the ocean!!! Admire from afar!!

haha yeah i was holding a huge cone snail on vacation and this local dude grabbed it out of my hand and threw it. i was like wth until i found out that it’s one of the most poisonous things on the planet. he probably saved me from having a really bad trip
