@purelychickens: ✅Put them in a crate ✅ They need to be there for one week at least. ✅Keep the food away from the edges to avoid an older one sticking their heads in. This could cause injury. ✅ Distract the flock during the release of the chicks. Free range if possible so the older ones go out to forage while the younger ones have a chance to learn the space and explore. Add treat dispensers, extra roosts or ladders to give them something to do if you can’t free range. ✅Add feeders and waterers to avoid the big ones being territorial. I like to add little ones in the corners of the run so the babies can find them. ✅Stay to observe during release of the littles. Make sure there isn’t extreme bullying and that they know where to eat and drink. ✅ Keep them safe at night by putting them back in the brooder or in a small safe space in the coop (they don’t need food and water at night). #chickenflock #newchickens #integratingchickens
I'm so terrified to integrate. my littles have been in a grow out pen with my bigger girls for weeks. one group is 17 weeks the other is 8 weeks. when should I put them together?

Our littles have been in a kennel in the coop for about a week now. Today was their first time free ranging together. My roo immediately jumped on one of the little back…the big girls pecked then took off leaving my 3 littles wondering around as a group. HOPE it gets better.

Can you make a second video explaining next steps? Like when I can have them fully integrated. Thank you!

Mine have been free ranging together. I’m only worried about my big rooster. He pecks at them sometimes. Worried about my silkie babies with the big ones. Thoughts?
