best advice for the living situation is prioritize the things you absolutely NEED in an apartment during your search. you’re gonna have to give A LOT up so think about what your absolute NEEDS are. also, get really creative with storage and using space!!! you’re not going to be in your apartment nearly as much as you are in chi so there’s a bit of relief there too, like you’ll be OUTSIDEEE. and make sure you live by subway lines that will be useful to your commute/life!!
