@ancestralwhispersdotorg: Facial reconstruction of a 10,000 year-old Eastern Hunter Gatherer ancestralwhispers.org She was found at the Paleolithic–Mesolithic transition site uncovered on Mayak Hill near Sidelkino, in the Samara Region. The remains are not attributed to any specific archaeological culture. One well-preserved skeleton, initially identified as female, features a large, long-headed skull with a moderately projecting face. Notable characteristics include a narrow forehead, low fronto-malar index, flat naso-malar area, sharp zygomaxillary profile, slight alveolar prognathism, and small, moderately protruding nasal bones. Although the individual's gender was initially questioned by anthropologists, recent genetic analyses have confirmed that she was indeed female. These analyses also revealed that she had intermediate-light skin and brown eyes. She carried the KITLG gene associated with blond hair, previously found among Ancient North Eurasians (ANE). However, in the absence of HERC2/OCA2 alleles—genes also involved in lighter pigmentation—she likely had brown rather than truly blond hair. Morphologically, she belonged to the so-called "Ancient Uraloid" type, a term coined by anthropologist Viktor Bunak to describe a population combining traits of both Western and Eastern Eurasians, though developed independently of either. This racial type was the most prevalent among ANE-rich populations.
