genuine question…WHEN WILL WE STOP HURTING CHILDREN? • • Adrian Jones was a 7-year-old boy from Kansas City, Kansas, whose case is one of the most horrifying examples of long-term child abuse in U.S. history. From 2013 to 2015, Adrian lived with his biological father, Michael Jones, and his stepmother, Heather Jones. Instead of being cared for, Adrian was held captive, starved, beaten, restrained, and subjected to extreme neglect and mental torment — often in ways that were captured on the couple’s own surveillance system inside the home. Photos later recovered showed Adrian emaciated, locked inside a shower stall, and forced to stand for hours without food or water. He was so thin, his bones were clearly visible. Despite clear warning signs and past reports to child protective services, Adrian remained in that home — unseen and unheard — until it was too late. In November 2015, police were called to the family’s home for a domestic incident, but what they found was worse than anyone imagined. Adrian had been deceased for weeks. His remains were discovered inside a livestock pen on the property — because after everything they did to him, they fed his body to pigs. Michael and Heather Jones were both sentenced to life in prison. But many still ask how so many adults and agencies failed a child who was literally begging for help in documented video footage.
