@scalingstories: u/OddResolution5357 My in-laws wanted to invite my daughter’s biggest bully to her birthday party because he must love her. Now they’re upset because I had to explain to my daughter that her grandparents are very stupid people. Never understood the “he’s teasing you because he likes you” like what kind of abuse are you setting her up for!?

this mentality of ‘boys bully you cause they like you’ is so dangerous and quite literally opens the door for abvsive relationships

even if he “liked” her that is NO EXCUSE and she does not have to reciprocate those feelings 💀 they’re like 6 why are they trying to couple match em so bad??

Even if the kid wasn’t bullying her, he’s not entitled to being invited to her birthday party. Bully’s parents need a reality check and MIL needs to stop romanticizing abuse, doesn’t matter if they’re kids.

I remember when I first got bullied the school tried to pass it off as "oh he just likes her! boys will be boys" and my mom straight up just said "I will not teach my child to be a beaten woman, now do something" and pulled me out of a school for a week (pre-k)

they decided to say the comment about the bully publically so they shouldn’t be shocked when you respond publically

Ah yes, he likes you it belongs in the realm of boys will boys. So happy op and his wife stood strong and tall right away on this instead of making excuses for the grandparents. 🥰

commenter 1 is so right and op chose the perfect words in my opinion cause he made his daughter’s impressionable mind understand that the grandparents ideas don’t make sense in any way and are inappropriate

That literally sets kids of to think ANY abuse in a relationship is okay. Yes kids have been found to be in abusive relationships at young ages and it’s terrible

Allowing children to believe the “he bullies you because he likes you” narrative, allows them to associate abuse with love. Definitely NTA. Protect your kids.

Telling a girl that the boy who bullies her is in love with her is how a girl becomes a victim of domestic violence/abuse

I hate when parents allow sons to act this way. The reason it happens is because all kids struggle with expressing emotions, but they only care about teaching girls the right ways to express it. This kind of dismissive parenting creates the issue, it isnt the boy being born this way. He needs to be taught what ways are positive expressions of interacting with others, and when he is being rejected for the way he is acting.

when i was in elementary school two of my male classmates (who were friends) used to tease me, hide my stuff, spread around who i had a crush on, etc(sometimes separately sometimes together). i hated it. i ended up going to an all girls school for middle and high school but in middle school i got FB messages from both of them saying that they had liked me the whole time. i never responded bc i was so horrified. idk how anyone could treat someone they liked in that way. boys need to be taught how to manage and convey their feelings without terrorizing people. good for op and his wife for sticking up for their child!!
