The coolest horse chase scene in all of movies IMO, and one of the coolest scenes in one of the best action movies of the 90s + all-time. “The Mask of Zorro” (1998), by Martin Campbell, is a perfect movie, one of my favorites. This is the first in a little mini-series that I want to do on it, since I watched it for the first time in few years, and it really feels like one of the last in a long line of handshake history and pure classic movie craft in Hollywood. We were on such a good trajectory with this stuff and then…CGI just kinda took so much away from it. That’s not to say that there haven’t been good action movies after this, but damn this movie is good. Shoutout to Tad Griffith, Casey O’Neill, and all the other stuntment that worked on this. Combined with the brilliant performances by Antonio Banderas, Anthony Hopkins, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Stuart Wilson, and Matt Letscher, it’s just…well, I love it. I could watch it again and again.
