I dont understand why people are not screaming about the 10,000+ people in Indiana on disability waiver waitlists. Pathways for ages 60+ was a complete failure for the elderly. People are suffering!

Hiii! So the health department thing is based on some weird bureaucratic thing where they make it incredibly difficult, time consuming, and unproductive to comply with the requirements to receive necessary funding. Basically, county health departments in Indiana now have a choice between expending more resources than they have to comply with these rules to receive reduced funding or opt out of said funding and laying off staff. I have access to more info if you want it. It’s a shitshow.

Let’s also talk about at the state level the 150+ full time employees that’ve been laid off but won’t be reported because they’re “contractors”, an additional 20% agency wide reduction in staff looming, and federal grants being slashed which then in turn reduces the amount that Local HDs get… due to fed budget changes.

911 Indy overtime cut with already short staff. we are being overworked with ever growing call load in the rise of the climbing heat nearing the beginning of summer. people will most likely wait longer and end up having dispatchers who are short with them because of the work load.

Public Health nurse here: we lost a TON of money. Thankfully no one is losing jobs at our department….yet.

I think a lot of it doesn’t make headlines because we operate in systems where information can’t be disclosed due to HIPAA, protected info within CPS and APS, etc. Prior to these changes, I already saw people needing emergent care at hospitals due to lack of resources and preventative services. I can only imagine the increases that our hospitals will see due to these budget cuts, and our healthcare systems are already struggling to keep up. It’s such a shame.

I recommend following @Corinne Straight. She is definitely helping to highlight a lot of these issues here in Indiana.

Infant mortality is down in Indiana. More educated parents. Some pretty interesting information, if you look at it. Our health department, in Martin County, IS ENCOURAGING every vaccine they can. Knowledge is power.
