i’ve been a relatively silent follower for years now, so I think this might even be my first comment - but I think this is extremely well-said. Educating yourself to the best of your ability, and with cut-and-dry things like immigrants and their right to come here and make new lives, trans lives, black lives matter(ing), free palestine, etc - even just saying which side you’re on is HUGE as a content creator and it’s disappointing when people don’t do that or even ATTEMPT to educate themselves. And, for the record, I’ve always looked up to you and how you go about activism, if that helps your worry :)

For sure, as long as they educate themselves on the matter.

“With great power, comes great responsibility” and technically if someone a has a popular platform, they have more power to influence so I completely agree with this - thank u for speaking about this ⭐️

there’s always something to do! Even if you’re not making content. If you can’t go to protests for whatever reason (valid). There’s always something to do

“Not having enough information” or not being “educated enough” about issues being an excuse has always annoyed me because. Google is free. Libraries are free. Yall have eeeeevery opportunity to educate yourself or with the platform they have, reach out to someone who can tell them about it. At this point literally anything

I did the same thing after Oct 7th. My whole life whenever I v P was presented to me it was like this big complicated political shitstorm that I was so confused about. And I finally hit the point where I was like okay I can’t NOT have an opinion about this; there has to be a way to digest this info. And there was. There always is. And since then especially I don’t believe that it’s hard to be on the right side of history anymore and that not saying something is just the fear of losing views/followers/money atp. Is that a death sentence to me? No but like…it definitely makes someone lose a lot of points w me. Speaking up for what’s right, even to just let people know you’re a safe space, should always be where someone’s moral compass points, especially if they want me to be a fan of their content. No ethical consumption under capitalism but holy hell I can give it my best effort with who advertises to me.

Thank you for being angry and still staying calm, informed, and open. You're setting the standard for what public facing individuals should be doing as citizens in this country whose media and government care more about sensationalism than the truth and doing what's right.

I am someone who tries to keep up with the Israel Palestine news, but struggle to fully keep up and know sources of information that I can rely on. Could anyone show me where to access correct information on the subject? I want to keep myself as educated as possible on anything going on in the world, but its so overwhelming and im dealing with health complications myself, making it hard to keep up with news

Very well said. We look up to content creators and there’s a lot of power in paradoxical relationships. Good on you for putting the effort in, I know it’s the bare minimum but it’s seen and heard it matters.

No no, you’re so right, I’ve thought this for so long but I know I’m in the minority thinking that way, and that makes me more frustrated, because I’d like to believe all these people are on the same side, but I don’t understand how you can do nothing rn and be on the same side, my own brain has a hard time trying to justify and understand it all

I have a total of 41 followers, and yet I still share what’s happening in the world. It’s a privilege to look away. I won’t let anyone look away and be complicit. I still continue to educate myself.

I always love hearing your takes James! I think you regularly prove your worthiness of a platform 🩷 If people are worried about being educated enough to speak, lend your platform to those who can and do provide the info that needs to get out there!
