Not every zoo is bad. In fact a lot of them are rehabilitation centers for the animals and work towards protecting from extinction. Just do your research before you go to make sure you are going to a zoo that is ethically ran :) it’s unfortunate that the baby dolphin died but not everything is due to neglect and because of poor housing for the animals.

Boredom/lack of enrichment would not have killed a baby. Newborns of any species are extremely delicate and are susceptible to almost everything disease you can throw at them

The first calf born to a female bottlenosw dolphin often dies because of how much mercury is in the fish they eat. Basically how nature set it up is a lot of the heavy metals the mother is carrying gets transferred to the first calf, essentially sacrificing it so her next calves can survive. Idk if that is what happened here but its a possibility, especially since its their first calf in 10 years, so it very likely is her first calf

People in the comments clearly aren’t Chicago natives. The Brookfield zoo is AZA accredited. It is *very* hard to obtain that, with less than 300 of the 10,000 zoos worldwide. The Lincoln Park zoo is also AZA accredited
