Maybe I'm just paranoid & delusional, but after working with AI for a couple years, I've experienced what I strongly consider to be the AI reading my mind. Giving me answers before I think to ask the question or type the prompt. Deeply negating my abstract thought processes accurately. So yes, thought crimes are a concern as thought crimes mean thought cops, thought laws & courts, and ultimately thought prisons.😱

If we understand how brain development works, we could be able to hijack it to produce humans more optimal for the society we built. Problems spawned by our current untampered emotions will vanish, in their place more manageable problems from engineered emotions

Dreams have already been decoded, though. We know what they mean based in psychology.

I think about your dream reader, and I imagine that being used on witnesses in trials.

I am more concerned that technology is far outpacing the ability of the government to keep up and regulate it properly.

I always ask myself what the EU is doing. They appear to be less susceptible to being exploited. Working on my doctorate, I came to the stark realization that engaging technology was not my personal optimal situation. There's a lot to say for simplification. Technology is not necessarily our friend.

it always starts with a good cause. but if they can heal the brain, they can also control it. and the scary thing is we will not even notice we are being controlled

I feel the regulations from external harvesting of brain data, should be further along than it is, before we fully endorse internal harvest.
the same as with DNA evidence in regards to ancestry testing.
but we have a body politic that is reactionary.

Inevitably our next phase of evolution is to become a collective just like the Borg. Resistance is futile.

The American Privacy Rights Act (APRA) is currently in discussion / draft stage, and is similar to Europe's GDPR. What they both lack is protection from the "resetting" of security defaults when you accept updates. But at least progress is being attempted

We need strong privacy laws, but we are also approaching a point where a single person could do a lot of damage with a bioprinter and a relatively small amount of data. It's a conundrum because we obviously can't trust gov either
