I’m a native English speaker who happens to be autistic. I would absolutely read “it would be awesome if” as a suggestion, not a rule. And I am ALL ABOUT rules 🤷♀️

NTA here , the invite said IF that's not clear as others have stated . So if I say it would be awesome if you can.....lend me.money , let me drive your car , come to an event , bring a plate ....thats not stating you must do those things ! The if in the invite just is not " made clear " add to that they have had non vegan food at the home before and other also made non vegan food . I think IF this person had only made non vegan then maybe this wouldn't have been very accommodating of her but still wouldn't have been her fault . Language , intent , and precedent are important .

obviously YTA. no clue what the last comment was yapping about, but it doesn't sound like they even read the post. they were asked to bring plant based food. there was no reason to bring a second dish with animal products. none at all. there was also no public call out.

As a Chilean myself if someone said “it would be awesome if…” I would take it as a suggestion, I think it’s miscommunication, people say it’s a polite way to say things but I wouldn’t have guessed, they could have said that it was an only vegan dinner. Maybe the meat wasn’t the best option, but they also brought another dish that “qualified”, also how dare you not try sopaipillas con pebre.

Yta, sorry. She failed to, for just one evening, honor her friend's dietary preferences. I have a friend who is a vegetarian. I would never bring a meat based dish to her house because I respect her. She doesn't even have to ask. It's like entry level consideration for a friend.

Wait maybe im misunderstanding something, but i thought plant-based was not the same thing as vegan? I've always known plant-based to be a PLANT BASED diet but NOT exclusive of animal products, just not focusing on them or making them a main dish. Veganism was what i thought total exclusion of animal products was. I would've misinterpreted the host's message too.

Me and the girls were going to spend the night with a friend once and we know that she and her housemates are vegan. One friend brought milk with her for her tea because she knew they wouldn't have any and her housemate took it out of the fridge and put it outside.

Parties are no fun these days because of aggressive wokeness, I swear. I was once invited to a party at a queer friend’s house — they are very open and vocal about their sexuality and gender identity, and don’t associate with people that are not OK with that — regardless, the day of the party, a note was a note sent out to remind everyone not bring anyone that might misgender/disrespect other guests…like, what? I don’t need to be reminded of common decency, and neither did anyone else invited. It just made it weird.

unless she specifically said “please only bring vegan food” then no you arent TA bc the way she phrased it was a suggestion not a direct ask, also you labeled it clearly and brought a vegan and non vegan dish so its not like you only brought a giant steak that she couldnt eat
