Look at the comparison between gymnastics gold medal performances in the 70s vs today. Humans just get better at using their skills over time. Same with metal bending. It became more widely used because they were dedicating schools to learning it.

Honestly idm that Zuko cant bend lightning since he can bend and control dragon fire (multicoloured fire) in the comics which is infinitely more powerful. It literally “puts Zuko at the pinnacle of firebending mastery” and “Zuko’s firebending stands head and shoulders above all others” as stated by Bryke

Not all of them can do lightning bending there are more of them but not all of them it’s just like metal bending more of them can do it but not all of them

I thought that classism being lessened might make it easier for anyone to learn/be taught how to lightningbend, as we only really saw royalty do it in ATLA

Not every firebender can lightning bend . Mako says it “pays well” making it seem like it’s a rare hard working job …. I think the royal family gatekept a lot of bending information or maybe in peace times there was a firebending school ? Similar to the metal bending school , we went from just toph to the entire police force

there was a theory that it's not really lightning bending they are manipulating the ambient electricity in the air which makes it easier so it's more like electricity bending
