So, speaking of pain. I'm sympathetic to evolution and human development. I totally get why the body evolved pain sensors in the hands. That way when we pick up the wrong end of a burning stick, we don't walk around with it. On the other hand (no pun intended) I don't understand why we have pain sensors in the kidneys when we have a stone. What's the point?

this is also how basic anesthesia works. we discovered that nerves worked through chemical channels, but before the 20th century no one was exactly sure how that process worked, and many people believed sensations such as pain were controlled by electrical impulses.
