Well, technically jelly roll isn't wrong on the snake part but I could debate him on the shark part and this is because. Snakes Aren’t Always in the Grass
The saying “a snake in the grass” suggests snakes are always hidden in grassy areas, but in reality, snakes inhabit a wide range of environments. Of the over 3,000 snake species worldwide, many are found in forests, deserts, wetlands, rocky outcrops, and even urban gardens—not just grass. Some, like sharp-tailed snakes, prefer dry habitats such as woodlands or chaparral and often hide under logs or debris rather than grass. Others, such as sea snakes, live their entire lives in the ocean, rarely if ever coming ashore. This diversity in habitat shows that snakes are highly adaptable and not limited to grassy areas.
Why Sharks Can Never Not Be in the Water
Sharks are obligate aquatic animals, meaning their biology is entirely dependent on water. There are two main reasons why sharks cannot leave the water:
• Breathing: Most sharks extract oxygen from water as it flows over their gills. Unlike bony fish, many shark species lack the muscles to actively pump water over their gills and must swim constantly to force water through them—a process called “ram ventilation”. If these sharks leave the water, they cannot breathe and will suffocate quickly.
• Buoyancy: Sharks lack a swim bladder, which most fish use to control buoyancy. Instead, they rely on constant movement to avoid sinking. Out of water, their bodies collapse under their own weight, causing internal injuries.
While a few shark species can rest on the sea floor and use special muscles to pump water over their gills, all sharks are physiologically incapable of surviving outside water for more than a brief period. Their entire life cycle, from feeding to reproduction, is tied to the aquatic environment.
