Petrit Halilaj (@xixellojme) is a Kosovar artist whose work explores themes of memory, displacement, and identity through sculpture, installation, and drawing. Rooted in his experiences growing up during the Kosovo War, his art often incorporates materials from his homeland—earth, wood, fabric, and found objects—to reconstruct personal and collective histories. By transforming symbols of loss and survival into imaginative, large-scale environments, Halilaj turns the remnants of conflict into poetic reflections on home, belonging, and the resilience of human creativity. In 2024, Halilaj transformed The Met’s (@metmuseum) rooftop garden with a sprawling, site-specific sculptural installation titled Abetare—his first major project in the United States.
