Totally! I just wrote a spec pilot completely without an outline just because I knew exactly how that story would go. Now the feature I’m working on, I had to put together a detailed outline so I could set a baseline before going

Agreed. The beats and plan are just a rough map that is changing constantly.

THATS WHAT I DO i figure out the general roadmap and then write the first act and then rework the story and then rewrite the first act and go from there it helps SO much

1. Answer the beats first. 2. Start writing the script. 3. Don't do a rewrite until you type FADE OUT. 4. Then write the novel. (You will go back to the script later and change everything but at least you also have a book now too)

Wow! Great timing!!!! I have been struggling with that! I have been attempting to stick to my outline likes it a blueprint and have actually fallen out of the love with the process! So I haven’t written in a while! Thanks for this!

I often use a jigsaw puzzle as a metaphor for script writing. The outside edge pieces is the outline. You know where it begins and ends, and the general sequence which the scenes happen. Likewise, without an outline, you can do a puzzle without doing the outside edge first, but it's going to take longer to see how it all fits together.

OMG! I thought I was the only one who did this. I started doing this a few screenplays back. Super helpful for me just to get in the world-flow of things.

Great ideas are rarely what you think today, but what you think tomorrow. Your story, characters, world, should always be better on draft 3 and not your first draft.

Agreed. Whenever I write, I need to let the adventure unfold to some extent by itself. It will come to me.

The way my script deviated from the outline but I couldn’t be too mad at myself because what was on the script was so clean that I loved the pivot I made.
