Racism = prejudice based on race. That’s literally it.

destiny is the perfect amount of leftist. willing to call out other lefties when they go to far, but still stands on reasonable leftist ideals.

the definition game is wild. Inherent racism is based off the system of government you grew up in but vanishes the second you leave an imaginary line. The word games are getting old. Inherent - existing in something as a permanent, essential, or characteristic attribute.

that was a perfectly coherent argument

Racism is different to systemic racism. I don't believe minorities can enact systemic racism, but can enact racism. Systemic racism is usually far more harmful and has realworld consequences though

Racism is the oppression of people based on race. White people cannot claim victims of racism here in america because white people have not been oppressed systemically. Also, because the systemic oppression comes from white people, only white people can be racist.

Destiny when the argument isn’t over basic dictionary definition and requires an understanding of history and politics. he just wants to win debates, he doesn’t have any convictions.

The technical definition of racism includes a power dynamic and that’s been the case for at least 60 years now. Most people just aren’t educated enough to know that. I’m not arguing it should or shouldn’t be that just saying that’s the actual definition.

Lol they don’t even need a hypothetical. South Africa is literally that. It’s like 9% white. The power structure argument is just an excuse to help people justify their hatred. It has little to do with popularity. If you used this logic than anti-social criminals can be considered innocent by the claim that their behavior is merely a minority social practice and thus his punishment is just the majority oppressing him. It’s senseless.

I know someone like this. Only the ethnic group in power can be racist, the others can just be prejudice, but never racist.

Biggest issue is that some ppl don’t think racism and systemic racism can’t be the same thing. The “-ism” implies that it’s a system already like communism but some don’t look at the word as such

Classism in the US is WAY more pevasive than racism. The fact that they intersect causes some to confuse the two.

The individual is being racist because they bring their culture with them. The issue is talking about racism sociological, ie across the population, vs a single act. In a African nation the impact of the insult is negligible, but that individual is an artifact of the American system. Is a gun held under the sea as much a danger as a gun on dry land? context does matter.

This was a sound argument.. not sure why this was clipped. I think the problem is everyone, particularly white people, thinks of things black and white but it’s not. If the complete situation was flipped, then yes it would apply. But since it’s not, it’s not.
