My kid goes to a school that is kinda leading the way for mastery schools. Scott looney is the head of the school. It’s a fascinating concept.

My first high school in Germany was a 7 point scale. 100-93 A, 92-85 B, 84-77 C. Anything lower then that was an F because we didn't have Ds. When I moved to Georgia with a 10 point scale that also had Ds and found out you could still pass a class with a 60% it blew my mind.

This is concerning to me. I get not wanting a child to fail. I an concorned about the motivation. No grades... I don't get it.

I honestly think if they retained in the early grades there wouldn’t be a need to retain later. We have 3rd graders who are reading at 1st grade level but expected to do 3rd graders who work? They cannot be successful and there isn’t enough time or staff to get all of them up to level during pull outs. Just retain them in 1st let them get all the reading rules down and then move on.

they are still doing this in my daughters high school the grades are 1-4 and it’s so confusing

1-3 at our school for lower elementary. My daughters just started doing it for upper as well as a pilot. We hate, she hates it… grade is based off single assessments with as little as 3 questions…awful. We can’t wait for this last year of elementary to be over.
