Girl, my favourite tool for my apprentices is a laser pointer. Otherwise my jb’s or feeds end up in weird places lol

I’m training a female apprentice and by default we process things completely differently. Finding the middle ground and trying to see from her perspective has helped tremendously not just in teaching but workmanship as well

I taught the pre apprentichip program... the best way to learn is doing it wrong first. 30 kids in my class all did it a different way. some were very creative 😅 everyone interpreted me differently. it was a real eye opener for me we all had a good laugh and learned a lot about communication skills

Had a coworker that got most of his salary from the goverment due to mental disabilities. Great worker when I learned how to communicate with him. When I gave him crystal clear directions he did a perfect job. When I forgot to tell a single step I had to redo the work😂

as a tradesman who has worked with apprentices from almost the age of 27 now of 48 it's being one of the best parts of my career. I am also a Hands-On teacher. I'm unable to speak sometimes what I want but I can show you

My Forman told an apprentice to “take apart the knock out set”… came back to a puddle of oil and parts. Wasn’t even mad as he blamed himself lol

Explain it with words all you want. I’m not learning that way. Have me actually do it while you instruct along the way and I’ll never forget it

Common sense to a journeyman is light years away from common sense to an apprentice. I think a lot of journeymen/foreman forget they were ever at that stage and jump to frustration to easily. I'm guilty of it sometimes 😂

Something this basic should have been taught by the apprentice's parents or they should have known better long before they started working.

Everything translates to hands on, learning from each other is human nature. Once you have a way you want it done, it will challenge you to teach in that manner which hones your skills.

Nothing annoys me more when people just assume it’s “common sense”. Ain’t no such thing. Everything in life has to be taught to us and some are taught more than others. When you’ve been in a job for long enough, you forget what the new people don’t know.

I’m in this boat right now. Honestly for the first couple months he goes nowhere and does nothing alone we’re going to hang out and do things together all day instead of me just explaining it with words
