@bookedit7: The levels of difficulty in Fantasy Sci-fi books for me || it’s only based on my vision of complexity #fantasy #fantasybooktok #fantasybook #sanderson #epicfantasy #adultfantasy #dune #scififantasy #scifibooktok #tolkien #thenameofthewind #fantasyrecs
not including a song of ice and fire on a fantasy list is crazy it's literally THE fantasy series

ASOIAF is better than everything here. It is the fantasy genre

I’m convinced anyone who says Dune is hard has not actually read Dune

It's important we don't conflate dryness/digestibility and complexity. I can't speak with much authority because I've only read a handful of the titles/series here, but I've noticed that we often credit literature for making a deeper or more sophisticated commentary on something, when really it's just more cryptic.
I say this because I've heard that all 3 titles ranked 7 here are pretty damn dry, not that they're simple. I'm quite familiar with the message of Dune, and it is a solid message, but of course very abstract. I'm feel we often give credit to Text's metaphorical complexity, and neglect the complexity/nuance of its commentary if it's made in a more direct way.

I blame Sarah J Maas, she really took the fantasy genre and dragged it into the kiddie pool. The fact that we all think of Sanderson as advanced writing now is insane, he was YA fifteen years ago. Thankfully science fiction holds the line.

Calling anything written by Brandon Sanderson more than high school level is insane.

Scythe was targeted torwards middle and ealry highschoolers I wouldn’t say it’s advanced. Red rising book 1 is intermediate but I can see the rest of the series as advanced. Mistborn is probably intermediate

Ain’t NO way Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson is “Advanced.” Respectfully, that book needs to be WAYYYY lower. Don’t get me wrong, is it my favorite fantasy book of the past several years? Yes. Is it an incredibly easy read? Also yes.

I don't trust any list that put Red Rising as Advanced. It's YA level.
