I hate the concept of retcons in general. characters like blue marvel and sentry are "living retcons" so I hate both on principle alone. wolverine comes perilously close, too

I like the idea with blue marvel, but the execution and how underutilized he is makes him a very shallow and poorly written character. even the other heroes interaction with him feel weird. they talk to him like they've never talked to a black man from the 50s before

It was mostly due to the Idea that during the time frame, People would be in fear of a Super Strong Black man and view him as a Threat not a Hero. Plus his wife a Spy for The government also.

I don't think the idea was "who cares you'd win the race war" the idea was more "i don't wanna start a race war". there's no winners in a war of any kind. the dilemma of "do i step down to not cause a race war?" is more interesting than just "well id win it so who gaf?"

My only beef with Blue Marvel is the same I have with Sentry. He make the rest of the Marvel heroes redundant. At least Sentry comes with a typical Marvel dysfunctionality of being his own villain.

because Marvel always does their Superman have something wrong with them for the blue Marvel I would have done what happened if someone took the lesson that you can't save everyone and decided to stop trying? that he utterly failed to save somebody make it JFK and it destroyed him so much that he just refused to even try because he didn't want to fail.

Can I add the weird “wife is a sleeper agent for the government the whole time” part. He overlooks that part really really fast. HIS WIFE lied to him the entire time he knew her and he basically just doesn’t care.

he's such a cool concept, done in the absolute worst way possible. he suffers the same ways the sentry and others do. where u just go "oh I wanna know more about this!" then after about an hour of research or reading u go "oh... man 😔"

I like the character but I get what you're saying. if marvel adapts his character to the big screen maybe a better idea would be that Kennedy was planning to make him the new Captain America and FBI and CIA created a. drug to take away his memories similar to the Winter soldier. also, the black community would hate this dude's guts.
