Hostels are NOT what you think they are. If you are still commenting that hostels are gross and unsafe then clearly never stayed in a good hostel. The right hostel isn’t just a cheap place to but it’s where you meet people who may become your lifelong friends! In my opinion, a great hostel (especially in big cities) should have: 1. Common spaces that encourage meeting people bc no one wants to be stuck in a dorm bed all day. 2. Clean rooms + private bathrooms (yes, hostels can have those). 3. Secure lockers and keycard access 4. Social events like walking tours, game nights, family dinners, or even random things like tea tastings 5. A bar or café on-site bc hostel friendships usually start over a drink 6. A vibe that balances social and chill- you want to meet people, but you also want sleep. I recently stayed at Wombat’s Hostel in London, and it checked all these boxes. It’s the perfect example of how modern hostels are built for travelers who want connection and comfort without spending hotel prices. Hostels like Wombat’s remind me why I’ll always choose this style of travel. You meet people from all over the world, you get insider tips you’d never find on Google, and you leave with way more stories than you would from a hotel room.
