I do save for retirement but I want balance. I also want to enjoy life now too by traveling and hobbies.

I retired 2 years ago at 58! I have everything I need and have no debt. The last 24 months I’ve spent an average of 1K per month. I’ll take my retirement when I’m 65. My vehicle is new paid for my house paid for.

We’ve got 2 paid off cars in the driveway 28 years old and 16 years old. Both are reliable. The house was a little small and beat up when we bought it, but it was very affordable 28 years ago and has gone up in value 5 fold. And I’ve saved 10% of my income for 34 years and put in a 401k. I’m support staff at a law firm, so not a high income, but I expect to retire this year at 58. Just live within your means.

people buy too much now. I'm sorry but they do. no one wants a starter home, they all want a perfect move in ready mcmansion. everyone wants 2 cars even if one person works from home. we never left our starter home and we only have one sensible car. mortgage gone mid 40s, and we pay off all credit cards/debt immediately. and we live a great life - multiple vacays and we go.our to eat plenty. we just aren't desperate to keep up with the joneses.

I don't drive a nice car because I think I'm rich. I know. I'm not rich but what I do is I buy something that I can afford because I intend to own it for at least 13 to 15 years. I don't trade. My cars in every time I get a bug up my a** So my car that I do end up buying which I always try to stay in Mercedes. It's always used. Always has decent miles on. It and it's something that I know. I can afford to run into the ground 1 day completely. Because I know that that car will never leave me stranded on the. Side of the road that car will always have my back and I also know it's still 12. My house is of average means it's a townhouse and it's not in the best part of the neighborhood. However, it's good enough for me and it has security everything else costs a lot, which is property taxes and house insurance and car insurance. Other than that, I don't live on my credit cards. I live using my debit if I can't afford it with my debit then I don't do it. I'm doing the best. I can. I've brought my credit score from a 520 to a 710 in a couple of years. I have paid extra payments on my mortgage yearly. And I am paying down my credit cards like a mad woman. I'm doing everything. I can to fix my wealth to fix my life other than that I don't have any complaints. I work hard. I appreciate working hard and I'm glad that I have a place to go every day. That's my own.

Grateful to have always lived in cities with good public transport (and worked remotely!). I don’t even have a drivers license at 28, sometimes thinking about learning to drive and getting a car at least for trips, maybe one day I will… but whenever I look at how much it costs to maintain one, I’m flabbergasted. Just glad to have never learned “I need” a car, glad I’ve been able to save a lot of money over the years instead of maintaining a car.

Good content, I’d advocate build a strategy to pay yourself first! Invest in yourself via money, physical, and education, this puts you a position of incredible power as you will always be in demand.

💯 Live below your means, drive your car for at least 10 years, get some form of systematic saving and investing (even if you start small…then slowly build)
