Tbf I understand their point, locals are being priced out of thier homes due to tourism’s, the goverment should just put in place laws that prevent vulture funds from buying property in such large quantities, it’s thier home, they should be able to live there within a reasonable price, although they economy within Barcelona does run a huge amount of tourism, so their plan of just stopping it is silly and would tank thier everyday life’s.

People in the comments are not aware there is such a thing as ethical tourism? You can visit places and be mindful of locals. In Barcelona, Florence, Rome, Paris, London, Como and many other places tourist have ruined life for locals by rising prices of foods, accomodation and even transport.

Their economy runs on tourism, if every single tourist leaves then what will happen ?? I know there are way too many tourists ofc, but this really isn't the way to make things better imo. attack on the people who let those huge amounts of tourists into the country, rent airbnbs and set up the cheap holiday trips instead

Guys you’re all getting it wrong. They do not hate tourists. As long as you’re respectful, support local businesses instead of stuff like starbucks & primark (local businesses are dying) and stay at hotels/hostels instead of airbnb (since airbnb are driving up the housing prices a LOT), there won’t be a problem. But, as someone who lives in Barcelona, i can say that it’s extremely overcrowded right now, in central Barcelona you can barely get around. But, the problem does not lie within the tourist, its the government that needs to find a way to control the tourism better.
