It's undeniable that Black people, particularly those from the Windrush generation, played a crucial role in the early years and ongoing development of the NHS after World War II. They arrived in the UK in response to calls for help to rebuild the country and many, especially women, joined the NHS as nurses and other healthcare professionals, filling critical staff shortages. Their contributions were essential to the NHS's establishment and continued operation.
