They’re the only company in the world that can do this. Without them, there’s no TSMC, no Samsung, no Nvidia chips powering AI models. Their machines use extreme ultraviolet light to print patterns smaller than a virus. Each one costs up to $200 million, weighs 180 tons, and takes three Boeing 747s to ship. The mirror and its mechanism are so precise that if scaled up to the size of the United States, the largest flaw would be just 1 millimeter high. ASML doesn’t make chips. But they control the tools every chipmaker needs. That makes them one of the most important companies in the world. They started as a Philips spin-off in 1984 and nearly went bankrupt. While others played it safe, ASML went all in on EUV. It was a high-risk bet no one else dared to make. That bet paid off. Today, they ship only about 50 EUV machines a year. That’s all the market can get. Revenue in Q1 2025 reached €7.7 billion and EUV made up over half of it. Now the world comes to ASML, checkbook in hand. They’re not just leading the game. They are the game.
