hey, I want to "yes and-" the details of that bystander effect! the popular narrative flattens the real social realities of the time. the victim was a lesbian and her social circle were terrified of cops, early on people did not report screaming not due to "bystander effect", but because it was dismissed as DV, and therefore a "personal matter," etc
