There is a lot to say about al ibanah, first of all, you wont find there any sentence where he says he repented from the kullubbiyya Aqidah, nor where he says that this is the wrong path, it even is the exact opposite as ibn hajar says in Lizenz al mizan "in his book al ibanah, al ashari was upon his (ibn kullab's) way." And ibn abu ya'la says in his tabaqat al hanabilah that al ibanah was not accepted from the hanabilah in baghdad, namely al barbahari. Saying that it was his last or one of his last books is false, rather it one of his first books after repenting from the mu'tazilah, this is the Position of ibn kawthari and and as shown ibn abi ya'la and more, furthermore he even says that it got corrupted by the anthromorphist of the hanabilah in baghdad, in his al sayf al saqil. And this is easily noticed by properly reading the book as we have it today, because it contradicts itself in Numerous places and also contradicts the portions of it which have been Transmitter by al asharis students. Also al ashari hasnt warned anyone to read his previous books, as he did with ‘Al- Jawabat fis-Sifat ‘an Masaili Ahliz-Zaighi wash-Shubuhat for example. Also accepting al ibanah as it todays means to accept incosistencies, some i already mentioned and vile things as saying that abu hanifa said that the quran was created, nauzubillah. And there is a lot more to say about it, but the gist of it is that the three Phase theory of al ashari is very weak
