that moderator specifically is known to be super toxic, there was drama and he recently got kicked off of modding the sailor moon subreddit, try magicalgirlscommunity instead

the mod had actually commented on that post congratulating them before they took it down, so they clearly didn't care until you said something too

common sense is always a terrible rule. May as well write: read my mind and understand my cultural context without knowing who I am or my experiences

You might want to report the mod/subreddit. It’s a very big underground thing where mods expect to be paid if someone gets advertised

r/magicalgirls have had a mod problem for awhile. r/magicalgirlcommunity (iirc) is the subreddit made to get away from the mods of the other sub

this is one of the reasons why people treat reddit the way they do, because reddit mods are toxic most of the time, no matter the size of the group. and a lot of the time, there is no tell the page admin about the mods running rampant. and tbf, I've seen mods do worse, and for 0 rule violate. just because the mod is moody that day.

you broke the reddiquete
what did you expect
and yes this is a real word that was unironically used by reddit mods when they removed all of the staff of the game company from the official subreddit of the said game

No, that's totally common sense. Subreddits aren't your advertising platform. Ads clutter up discussion forums if left unchecked and plenty of forums have been abandoned for it. Mods are doing their jobs.

"Common sense" not it ISN'T. If people "have to ask" put it in the rules

As someone who was raised by the internet, this is not common internet etiquette unless you explicitly state no advertising in your rules. 😅

sorry that happened to you, but that community does pretty clearly have a rule against advertising. Not sure why the mod quoted rule 5, the relevant one here would be rule 9.

me when sourdough reddit mods banned me for not including the exact ml of how much water i used in my recepie, after i took out the time to write up the most detailed post of my whole sourdough process, in over 4000 words and then told me my low effort post and my "low karma" made them unsure of my "intentions " (getting help with my sourdough) sorry i posted for the first time i guess 😭 thank you lord for making me dodge the bullet that was reddit

no, that's understandable. Reddit community as a whole is *super* anti self promotion. sometimes things slip through the cracks and get heavily up voted, but generally that's how things are. sucks that that's how you find out though

On the one hand, yeah reddit mod. On the other, I think a lot of people who primarily use later made apps like tiktok that are all about self promotion, have a different internet cultural experience than the old forum culture, which is what reddit sticks to. It should be a written rule, but lots of people do think of it as common etiquette to get permission before self promo, even though times are changing

I understand now self-promotion but at the same time, the mods should've been more clear and put the warning as rule 9 instead of rule 5 as "common sense." It's honestly just snarky and overly dramatic for the lack of severity. Your game does look cute though!

I used to do giveaways as promotion on Reddit for a company I worked for, this is fairly common. The “ask first” thing is weird, usually you have to be a somewhat active member of the subreddit and make posts/comments unrelated to your business to avoid this. That mod is a knucklehead though

No mods are right for that one, cause if you allow ads its just gonna get flooded with ads for screen printed stickers, or dropshipped merch. If a fan made a post about it, its one thing. But the creator soliciting sales for product is another. I wish you luck in game dev but every ad i see brings me closer to REDACTED.

asking before self promoting is part of Redditquette, however actually banning because they're too lazy to make it its own independent rule is wild.

lol you give just a fraction of power to these glorified internet janitors and they run with it.
I remember there was drama in the Sailor Moon subreddit when the mod went on a power trip, banned someone for posting their own art, claiming it was AI, and when the artist showed proof that it wasn't, they refused to unban them.
I wouldn't be surprised if it was the same mod.
