@ashleyklemieux: I got a comment recently that said:
“You chose this life. You still have the same 24 hours.” And I haven’t stopped thinking about it — not because it’s new, but because it’s so common. Moms hear this kind of thing all the time — and it’s quietly damaging in ways that deserve to be talked about. Yes, we chose motherhood.
But we didn’t choose the societal pressure to do it all perfectly.
We didn’t choose to be undervalued, unseen, or exhausted while holding up entire households.
We didn’t choose to feel like we’re failing when we’re actually just carrying too much. Not all 24 hours are the same — and pretending they are erases the invisible labor of caregiving, the sleepless nights, the mental load, and the way a mother’s time is constantly interrupted, re-prioritized, and offered to others. When someone says “you chose this life,” it’s often meant to shut the conversation down. But I want to open it wider. Because here’s the truth:
🌀 Some moms are doing it alone.
🍼 Some are waking every 2 hours to feed a newborn.
💼 Some are juggling work, daycare, and everything in between.
💔 Some are grieving the loss of who they used to be — while loving their child with everything they have.
And all of them deserve empathy and support, not judgment. If you’re a mom feeling stretched thin right now: your exhaustion is valid. Your feelings are real. And no, you are not failing — you’re navigating a season that demands more than most people can see. We don’t need to “do more” with our 24 hours.
We need to be seen in the hours we’re already giving everything to. Share this with your community and let’s widen the conversation. ❤️
